Before I was the in-house beauty director at BEAUTY PIE, I was a beauty director at quite a few other places — most notably for nine years at British Vogue. I’ve always loved writing about beauty. I love researching the products, questioning the science, deep-diving into the ingredients, thinking about who will get the best use out of them, and how.
So here at BEAUTY PIE I’ve been doing just that, putting every single product through its paces to really see what stands out. Here’s my (current) edit; watch this space for more!
1. Why is Wonderscrub unlike any other exfoliating scrub?
Wonderscrub is unlike any other exfoliating scrub I’ve ever tried. The tiny grains sit in a lovely nourishing cream that feels luxurious to use. And your skin afterwards is unbelievably soft, just like you’ve had professional microdermabrasion.
2. What makes the Youthbomb™ 360 Radiance Concentrate such incredible value?
I did A LOT of research into this, and for the quality of the ingredients, the size of the bottle and the radiance it delivers? The Youthbomb™ 360 Radiance Concentrate is UNBELIEVABLE value. In fact, I’m quite shocked at how little other brands get away with using, when you see how full to the brim this formula is with science-backed light reflectors. I also find it’s a great ‘carrier’ serum into which you can mix your superdrops to save time in the morning, too.
3. How does Super Luminous Under Eye Genius tackle dark circles?
I am an absolute dark circle obsessive, having been the proud owner of a pair almost since childhood. I’ve interviewed every makeup artist, dermatologist and beauty expert about how to tackle them, and the best advice always seems to be about layering: start with a really great eye cream, and build up coverage in sheer layers from there.
Super Luminous Under Eye Genius is so amazing because this brightening corrector magically seems to neutralise dark circles, so that when you come to apply concealer, you don’t need to be heavy-duty with it, and you get a much more natural look. I have at least a couple on the go at all times. Everyone deserves genius under-eye correcting and brightening!
4. Which mascara never smudges, even on oily skin?
I’m VERY fussy about mascara. I have the winning combination of short, straight lashes and slightly oily skin, so if I’m not careful, I can get very smudgy by the end of the day. But Wrap Star NEVER smudges, and it also gives lovely, fluttery length and curl. So I have a soft spot for this tubing mascara for many reasons — not least of which is that it was one of the first products I got to name. There’s no going back to regular mascara after you try it.
5. How does the Super Healthy Hair Pre-Wash Magic Glossing Seal work?
If, like me, you are a) prone to frizz but b) reluctant to invest the time/money/effort in professional salon treatments, the Super Healthy Hair Pre-Wash Magic Glossing Seal is what you need. I love the fact that you apply it before showering (to dry hair), leave for a couple of minutes, rinse, then go about your normal washing and conditioning business. No mess, no hassle, no nothing.
It’s like nothing ever happened — UNTIL YOU BLOW-DRY YOUR HAIR and it does exactly what you want it to and feels like silk. Basically like an in-salon treatment, but a fraction of the cost.
7. What are the benefits of The Power Down Blend Aromatherapy Bath & Shower Oil?
I LOVE aromatherapy oils but again am very choosy (can you detect a theme here?). I like oils that you can both add to a bath (but who has time for baths?) or — which is what I do — apply directly to dry skin, wait a few minutes, then rinse off in the shower.
The Power Down Blend Aromatherapy Bath & Shower Oil contains three of my all-time favourite essential oils: Lavender, Chamomile and Geranium. Honestly, this calming blend is my not-so-secret (because I tell everyone, all the time) secret to instant relaxation and silky skin.
8. Why are Goody Two Chews Hair, Skin & Nails Gummies different from regular vitamins?
Like most of us, I have the best intentions with vitamins but they quite often fall by the wayside for days (weeks) on end. Not so with our gummies. I love them all, but I especially like the Goody Two Chews Hair, Skin & Nails Gummies because as a reformed nail biter I have the weakest nails, and these really do help. And they’re YUM. Daily vitamins you’ll actually want to take. What could be better?
9. Why is the Triple Hyaluronic Acid Lipopeptide Serum the ultimate hydration all-rounder?
Sometimes I lie awake at night and if I can’t sleep, I run through the products I use and imagine what my plan B would be if they were ever discontinued. (It’s a surprisingly therapeutic/useful exercise that I definitely recommend to fellow beauty lovers).
This perfectly light, super-hydrating serum is something I just can’t find a ‘plan B’ for. It’s the perfect serum all-rounder, and I use it most days — but always when I know my skin needs something, but I’m not sure exactly what. There are so many hyaluronic acid serums out there, but this perfectly balanced, multi-molecular weight serum has my winning vote: hands down, the ultimate.
10. What does the Jeju Daily AM/PM Moisture Superinfusion do for your skin?
The does-it-all Jeju Daily AM/PM Moisture Superinfusion — I apply it and watch my skin spring back to life. Takes a minute to sink in, which gives you time to appreciate its miraculousness.
