Great fragrance-making is art, science and a dash of magic. It’s also particularly personal. Because how one person’s nose perceives a perfume can be 180 degrees from another’s, and unless you’re a connoisseur or a collector, you’ll probably always sway toward one family of notes.
To date, we’ve introduced five Eau De Parfums at BEAUTY PIE, and although our briefing methods are radical, each of them is a treasure. We’ve worked with master noses Frank Voelkl and Sidonie Lancesseur, and given them free-reign to create the most beautiful fragrances imaginable (no budget, no holding back) and one by one, added floral, oriental, woody and fresh!
Why does fragrance smell different or last longer on each wearer? Factors include the PH of your skin, whether it’s dry or oily, what your diet is like and the composition of the fragrance itself (natural extracts, citruses and florals for instance are more ephemeral, so you have to spray them on more regularly).
Brain science tell us that fragrance can have a direct impact on our emotions and memories – and can play an important role in the physiological effects of mood, stress, memory and even working capacity. A great scent can double up – these days as a mode of transport, a daily motivator, an output level ‘upper’.
To help figure out which fragrances speak to you, familiarize yourself with the descriptive categories under which they usually fall. Although many are a combination of a few, developing a sense of what most attracts you will help you navigate more swiftly.
