Long story, short
- It is possible to transform naturally short lashes — a combination of a good lash growth serum, supportive at-home remedies, and the right supplements can visibly lengthen and thicken lashes over time.
- At-home remedies like petroleum jelly, castor oil, olive oil, green tea, and aloe vera won’t deliver dramatic lengthening on their own, but they do support the health of the delicate skin around the eyes and help prevent dryness and irritation that could affect lash longevity.
- A dedicated lash serum is the most effective route to longer, fuller lashes. The Beauty Pie Lash Fuel™ Advanced Peptide Serum (powered by LFP.003 Peptide, Biotin, and Panthenol) showed significantly longer-looking lashes in 2 weeks and significantly fuller-looking lashes in 4 weeks.
- Supplement your lash routine with Biotin (strengthens hair follicles), Omega-3 fatty acids (supports overall hair health), and Vitamin E (antioxidant properties linked to hair growth) — via food or supplements.
If you have naturally short eyelashes, it can feel like your only option is to invest in a good mascara, or else commit yourself to a life of regular lash extensions. But this needn’t be the case. It is possible to transform your natural lashes to be long, lustrous and full. Here is everything you need to know.
At-home Remedies
While at-home remedies won’t deliver the lengthening, thickening results you’re after, they will support the health of the delicate skin around your eyes and help to prevent dryness and irritation that could affect the longevity of your natural lashes.
Petroleum jelly
It’s finally time to put the discarded tubs of Vaseline floating around at the bottom of bags and in the side compartments of cars to good use. At least three days a week, apply a small amount of petroleum jelly to the eyelashes before bed and wash it off in the morning.
Green tea
Beloved by health and wellness gurus everywhere — apply cooled, unsweetened Green Tea to the eyelashes using a cotton ball daily to reduce inflammation and soothe irritated skin.
Olive oil
Apply a small amount of olive oil (bonus points if you add infused lemon peel into it) on the eyelashes at night before bed and wash it off in the morning.
Castor oil
Famously good for hair growth, apply a small amount of castor oil on the eyelashes each night before bed and wash it off in the morning.
Aloe vera
Is there anything Aloe Vera doesn’t help with? You can now add lash growth to its long list of benefits. Dab a small amount of your preferred Aloe Vera gel on the eyelashes and watch it work its magic.
Use a Lash Growth Serum
Not to state the obvious, but a good lash serum will help to transform the appearance of even the most stubborn and short lashes. We recommend using our Lash Fuel™ Advanced Peptide Serum — this super lash serum is powered by LFP.003 Peptide, Biotin and Panthenol. The results speak for themselves: in 2 weeks lashes were significantly longer looking, and in 4 weeks, they were significantly fuller looking. A no-brainer really.
Beware of Quick Fixes
We get it, the road to longer lashes can be trying and you might be tempted to splash out on lash extensions or apply strip lashes before a night out. However, overuse is likely to not only damage lashes by weakening the hair follicle, but also clog them with glue — and improper removal can snap off any existing lashes.
Support with Supplements
Biotin
Biotin strengthens and helps to protect healthy hair, and recently, studies have suggested that it may even help to combat hair loss thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties.
Omega-3 fatty acids
Studies on Omega-3 have also shown that this essential fatty acid supports the health of your hair. So prioritise foods rich in Omega-3 fatty acids (e.g. salmon, nuts, and seeds) or consider taking a supplement.
Vitamin E
It’s no secret that Vitamin E boasts multiple benefits for hair, including lashes. A study found that participants with alopecia who took supplements of tocotrienol (a primary form of Vitamin E) noticed hair growth, most likely caused by this antioxidant vitamin’s properties.
You can either opt for a Vitamin E oil, which can be applied to your lashes topically, or focus on consuming foods that contain Vitamin E (e.g. leafy greens, nuts, and avocado) and supplements.
